October 4, 2025

On October 4, from 12-6pm, Grupo Ñ will present Eso, eso, eso (index finger gesture), a marathon screening of the recently released HBO series Chespirito: Not Really on Purpose.

The screening is part of Defining Ñ, a residency and presentation by the Los Angeles–based collective Grupo Ñ, founded in 2023 by artists Sophia Le Fraga, Michele Lorusso, and Pedro Alejandro Verdin. Over the course of four weeks, the collective undertakes a process-based effort to better understand their shared voice through an evolving installation resembling a functional office space, accompanied by weekly Saturday programs.

The autobiographical eight-episode series chronicles the personal life and career of Mexican comic and cultural icon Roberto Gómez Bolaños, creator and protagonist of El Chavo del Ocho (1973-1980) and El Chapulín Colorado (1973-1979). The influence of these shows resonates with Grupo Ñ, who grew up hearing about or watching them. Their impact extends far beyond Mexico, continuing to shape cultural memory across Latin America, where the programs are still broadcast five decades later.

Alongside the screening, Grupo Ñ presents the second edition of their publication, produced onsite as part of their exhibition. The publication gathers text-based artworks, scanned excerpts from contemporary art books, visual references—such as a headshot of Bolaños as the main character in El Chavo del Ocho or the emblem worn by the superhero in El Chapulín Colorado—and transcribed conversations among the collective, documented by poet and writer Lupita Limón. As the artists bring their interests into view, the book reflects the daily communications that support and define a collaborative practice.

Sophia Le Fraga works with objects, images, and poems to explore how language circulates, accumulates, and leaves traces over time.

Michele Lorusso is an artist whose practice explores language as a performative device that shapes reality while revealing its limits through words, objects, and space.

Pedro Alejandro Verdin works across painting, music, writing, and curation, creating projects that weave tenderness with playfulness.
