Hiring: Getty Marrow Curatorial Intern

March 12 – April 10, 2026

JOAN is hiring a Getty Marrow Curatorial Intern for Summer 2026.

The intern will work closely with the JOAN team on the research, conceptualization, and production of a newly commissioned solo exhibition by Los Angeles–based Iraqi artist Ali Eyal. This presentation, opening in Fall 2026 at JOAN, will feature newly commissioned, site-specific installations, and a series of public programs.

Eyal’s multidisciplinary practice spans painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, and performance. Deeply informed by his experience growing up during the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq, his work explores memory, displacement, and loss through poetic and fragmented visual forms. His practice has been presented internationally and is shaped by years of research into the politics of representation, storytelling, and the instability of images in the wake of conflict. Through shifting narratives and recurring motifs—such as absent figures, domestic objects, and traces of everyday life—Eyal investigates how personal and collective histories endure amid erasure and war.

The Curatorial Intern will assist in all aspects of exhibition research and production, including artist correspondence, fabrication and installation planning, and development of related public programs. The intern will also contribute to JOAN’s communications, including drafting exhibition materials and supporting social media and outreach efforts. The position offers direct insight into the curatorial process within a small, artist-centered nonprofit organization and the opportunity to engage deeply with a new commission.
