Propaganda in the hallway of JOAN
This Sunday, July 13th at 6:30pm, we are excited to host Der Salto—a series of performances presented by PROPAGANDA in the hallways of JOAN.
We are Propaganda, we are a group that prefers to remain anonymous. We have taken place at the Steps of the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, at the Star of Rainer Werner Fassbinder in Berlin, Outside the Gates of the Pierce Brothers Village Memorial Near the Grave of John Cassavetes in Westwood, and in the Parking Lot of the Kunstverein in Hamburg. PROPAGANDA Presented Spells Against Annihilation, a 4-hour Hollywood bus tour across Los Angeles collaboration with Jasminne Morataya. Propaganda is for everyone. Propaganda doesn’t need to be heard to be felt. Propaganda will never die. Propaganda believes that poetry is the most interesting/advanced place to be. Propaganda isn’t just in movies, Propaganda is the movies. Propaganda thrives on unexpected strokes of good luck. Propaganda is on every curb, in every alleyway, in every hallway, on every intersection, in every single one of your hearts, and irreversibly you in ours. Propaganda is public space, Propaganda is potential. —Zara Schuster, Emma Bombail
A possum played dead. Its mouth dropped open. Then closed. It rolled over. It walked around.
An adolescent attempted a somersault. They failed. They tried again.
A fetus was breathing inside of a womb. A baby rotated as it exited its home.
Removed from its vehicle, a tire was no longer attached to its body.
A tire was steadily pushed down an alleyway.
This event is part of our programming for being living, David Horvitz’s solo exhibition, on view through August 23. Horvitz’s expansive practice is often built from collaboration and informal exchanges, with much of the exhibition directly connected to and inspired by his network of friends, family, and collaborators.
Der Salto will feature performances by Noah Brockman, Amy Gerstler, Joseph Mosconi, David Horvitz, Zara Schuster, Emma Bombail, Moses Mascuch, Hannah Tishkoff, Jean Marco Torres, Sophie Gillet, and Theo Meranze.
